2001-11-02- U2 has been testedMiod Vallat
- floppies have neither NFS nor CDROM support - add a section about firmware upgrades, and tell that they might be necessary, especially for U1/1E/2 systems. Pointed out from brad@, some of the information provided here comes from Sun's firmware update documentation.
2001-10-16Our bootable cd-rom is so good you don't have to say anything butMiod Vallat
``boot cdrom'', says jason@. ok deraadt@
2001-10-15The final round of sparc64 installation notes updates:Miod Vallat
- add miniroot and bootable cd-rom information - fix a few wordings - fix incorrect Solaris manual pages section names - replace a rip-off of boot_sparc(8) with a more adequate rip-off of boot_sparc64(8) The whole ok deraadt@
2001-10-14Solaris friendly update!Miod Vallat
- Provide typical Solaris command lines for creating floppies, dumping miniroots to disks, and filling tapes. - Make the tape generation script more versatile. - When SunOS add_client(8) is mentioned, mention Solaris share(1M) as well. - Add ``Installing from Solaris'' instructions for sparc and sparc64 ports - While there, slight fixes to the ``Installing from SunOS'' sections on sparc and sun3.
2001-10-13document strange PROM setup on machines before fist Solaris boot.Matthieu Herrb
Ok miod@, deraadt@
2001-10-11More installation caveats:Miod Vallat
- some models (PCI mostly?) print a warning about the lack of counter-timer during boot, which can be safely ignored - using the floppy image as a miniroot, you might have to tell the kernel root and swap device information. Based on feedback from Jack Woehr <jax@purematrix.com>, thanks ! And now, a word from our sponsors: Are you reading source-changes@? Do you have full access to ultrasparc hardware? Now is your chance to become famous! Just try installing OpenBSD on your machine, by any method you can think of, and keep trying. Report your results to me (or sparc@), as well as errors or shortcomings in the installation notes, and your feedback might make it into the next set of installation notes, with appropriate credit!
2001-10-10Mention the X11 sets, with a note that there is no X server available forMiod Vallat
real hardware yet.
2001-10-10Hint that floppyB, while apparently not working as a floppy yet, makes aMiod Vallat
nice miniroot.
2001-10-10Document the installation floppies, as well as the fact that floppy imagesMiod Vallat
can be used as poor man's miniroot.
2001-10-09correct AX entry, add AXiJason Wright
2001-10-07Update sets sizes.Miod Vallat
2001-10-06Fix a few common typos and stuff related to tape installation.Miod Vallat
2001-10-06- use the new m4.common shared instructions.Miod Vallat
- try to have consistent order, across arches, in the list of possible installation media. - alpha can't install over nfs, but macppc can.
2001-10-03o English, typosHeikki Korpela
o Clarify that cksum(1) and md5(1) are actual commands. Some systems only have md5(3) functions and the corresponding command is something different. ok miod@
2001-10-02Sync with OpenBSDUpgrade macro change. Explicitely provide all the mediaMiod Vallat
able to start an upgrade procedure.
2001-10-02I'm so good I managed to cut'n'paste the same typo over all those files.Miod Vallat
2001-10-02Minor layout sync with sparc.Miod Vallat
2001-10-02Remove dangling references (see section foo with no section foo).Miod Vallat
2001-10-02- prepare more commented out text to describe a future miniroot and a futureMiod Vallat
floppy (sync with sparc layout) - meanwhile, comment out one reference to floppy boot which escaped.
2001-10-01- update supported hardware listMiod Vallat
- remove more sparc'isms. The more you remove, the more there are... - describe more fun installation methods - fix a random typo
2001-10-01Don't refer to the ``new single floppy'' installation method, just ``floppy''Miod Vallat
will do since the two floppy installation is long dead. And don't even mention it on sparc64 (yet).
2001-10-01Update the description of the bsd.rd miniroot behaviour (it will askMiod Vallat
for a terminal first, then I/U/S). While there, remove a duplicated sentence on hp300 and add the complete bsd.rd installation description to the vax notes.
2001-09-29ide issue on AX fixed, typosJason Wright
2001-09-28update sizesJason Wright
2001-09-27sparc64 has shared libraries now.Miod Vallat
Sets sizes are still completely bogus, though.
2001-09-27Mention more hardware being supported.Miod Vallat
Update the list of unsupported framebuffers: there's no point in mentioning VME framebuffers, or SBus framebuffers which were never supported on the UltraSPARC and will probably not work on them (assuming they would fit in the case, something the cgtwelve can't do). Make more clear, however, that the kernel will be able to use the OpenPROM console whatever the framebuffer is.
2001-09-27More issues clarified, thanks Jason !Miod Vallat
2001-09-24Bring the sparc64 installation notes in better shape, and closer toMiod Vallat
reality. Thanks to jason@ for hints and feedback.
2001-09-21Ugh, there's SOO much left to do hereJason Wright
2001-09-19stolen verbatim from sparc and only slightly modified from there... thisJason Wright
is going to need a LOT of work (any volunteers?)
