2017-02-09DES keys are not 7 days long. ok jsing@Darren Tucker

2016-12-21Explicitly export a list of symbols from libcrypto.Joel Sing
Move the "internal" BN functions from bn.h to bn_lcl.h and stop exporting the bn_* symbols. These are documented as only being intended for internal use, so why they were placed in a public header is beyond me... This hides 363 previously exported symbols, most of which exist in headers that are not installed and were never intended to be public. This also removes a few crusty old things that should have died long ago (like _ossl_old_des_read_pw). But don't worry... there are still 3451 symbols exported from the library. With input and testing from inoguchi@. ok beck@ inoguchi@
2016-03-20" the the " -> " the ", or in a couple of cases replace the superfluousKenneth R Westerback
"the" with the obviously intended word. Started with a "the the" spotted by Mihal Mazurek.

2015-09-12Remove horribly old and outdated `documentation' for the assembly code.Miod Vallat
2015-09-10Correct spelling of OPENSSL_cleanse.Joel Sing
ok miod@
2015-02-12If you do not support POSIX I/O then you're not tall enough to ride...Joel Sing
ok tedu@
2015-02-10Remove assert() or OPENSSL_assert() of pointers being non-NULL. The policyMiod Vallat
for libraries in OpenBSD is to deliberately let NULL pointers cause a SIGSEGV. ok doug@ jsing@
2015-02-07Delete a lot of #if 0 code in libressl.Doug Hogan
There are a few instances where #if 1 is removed but the code remains. Based on the following OpenSSL commits. Some of the commits weren't strictly deletions so they are going to be split up into separate commits. 6f91b017bbb7140f816721141ac156d1b828a6b3 3d47c1d331fdc7574d2275cda1a630ccdb624b08 dfb56425b68314b2b57e17c82c1df42e7a015132 c8fa2356a00cbaada8963f739e5570298311a060 f16a64d11f55c01f56baa62ebf1dec7f8fe718cb 9ccc00ef6ea65567622e40c49aca43f2c6d79cdb 02a938c953b3e1ced71d9a832de1618f907eb96d 75d0ebef2aef7a2c77b27575b8da898e22f3ccd5 d6fbb194095312f4722c81c9362dbd0de66cb656 6f1a93ad111c7dfe36a09a976c4c009079b19ea1 1a5adcfb5edfe23908b350f8757df405b0f5f71f 8de24b792743d11e1d5a0dcd336a49368750c577 a2b18e657ea1a932d125154f4e13ab2258796d90 8e964419603d2478dfb391c66e7ccb2dcc9776b4 32dfde107636ac9bc62a5b3233fe2a54dbc27008 input + ok jsing@, miod@, tedu@
2014-10-28deregister; no binary changeJonathan Gray
ok jsing@ miod@
2014-10-22Use arc4random_buf() instead of RAND_bytes() or RAND_pseudo_bytes().Joel Sing
arc4random_buf() is guaranteed to always succeed - it is worth noting that a number of the replaced function calls were already missing return value checks. ok deraadt@
2014-10-12Remove useless comments in DES_is_weak_key(). Do we really care that thisMiod Vallat
function was found broken in 1993, and later on in 1997?
2014-08-18replace more ROTATE macros with plain-old C code.Brent Cook
Let the compiler optimize these. Even older versions of gcc generate equal or better quality code than the inline asm. ok miod@
2014-07-22In DES_random_key(), force the generated key to the odd parity before checkingMiod Vallat
it is not one of the weak and semi-weak keys. Even though the probability of generating a weak key with incorrect parity is abysmally small, there is no reason to be correct (although, if you're in a need for fresh DES keys nowadays, you should seriously consider switching to a stronger symmetric cipher algorithm). ok beck@
2014-07-11Only import cryptlib.h in the four source files that actually need it.Joel Sing
Remove the openssl public includes from cryptlib.h and add a small number of includes into the source files that actually need them. While here, also sort/group/tidy the includes. ok beck@ miod@
2014-07-10Explicitly include <openssl/opensslconf.h> in every file that referencesJoel Sing
an OPENSSL_NO_* define. This avoids relying on something else pulling it in for us, plus it fixes several cases where the #ifndef OPENSSL_NO_XYZ is never going to do anything, since OPENSSL_NO_XYZ will never defined, due to the fact that opensslconf.h has not been included. This also includes some miscellaneous sorting/tidying of headers.
2014-07-09Remove leading underscore from _BYTE_ORDER and _{LITTLE,BIG}_ENDIAN, to beMiod Vallat
more friendly to systems where the underscore flavours may be defined as empty. Found the hard way be bcook@; joint brainstrom with bcook beck and guenther
2014-07-09remove unused, private version strings except SSL_version_strBrent Cook
Also remove unused des_ver.h, which exports some of these strings, but is not installed. ok miod@ tedu@
2014-07-08Remove undocumented _des_crypt() interface and its companion header file,Miod Vallat
which had never been installed, so it's unlikely something ever used this in the last 15~20 years. ok deraadt@ jsing@ beck@
2014-06-12tags as requested by miod and teduTheo de Raadt
2014-05-24Remove the _shadow_ indirection, which is unnecessary in a world withoutJoel Sing
OPENSSL_EXPORT_VAR_AS_FUNCTION. ok miod@
2014-05-24Expand the OPENSSL_.*GLOBAL.* macros and stop including e_os2.h.Joel Sing
ok miod@ beck@
2014-05-24Explicitly include <openssl/openssl.conf>. des.h still needs e_os2.h (atJoel Sing
least for a little while longer...)
2014-05-24Almost nothing actually needs to include <openssl/e_os2.h>, however byJoel Sing
including it they get <openssl/opensslconf.h>. So instead of pulling in <openssl/e_os2.h>, just pull in <openssl/opensslconf.h>. "go ahead" miod@
2014-05-22Expand the OPENSSL_{GLOBAL,EXPORT,IMPORT,EXTERN} macros - this rids theJoel Sing
libssl tree from all uses of these defines. ok miod@
2014-04-28Remove WIN32, WIN64 and MINGW32 tentacles.Miod Vallat
Also check for _LP64 rather than __arch64__ (the former being more reliable than __LP64__ or __arch64__) to tell 64-bit int platforms apart from 32-bit int platforms. Loosely based upon a diff from Martijn van Duren on tech@
2014-04-27Unifdef -U OPENSSL_BUILD_SHLIBCRYPTO, since all it causes under Unix is toMiod Vallat
redefine OPENSSL_EXTERN from `extern' to `extern'.
2014-04-24unifdef MSDOSGiovanni Bechis
ok miod@
2014-04-23Unifdef -UPEDANTIC. ok beck@ tedu@Miod Vallat
2014-04-22Remove files which look like actual code compiled in libcrypto, but isn't.Miod Vallat
One even says (in comments): HAS BUGS! DON'T USE
2014-04-22Remove meat which either duplicates code found in apps/, or is only of valueMiod Vallat
for 20th century historians, and can be put in the Attic.
2014-04-21clean up files we don't needTed Unangst
2014-04-19We'll interpret a (void) cast on snprintf() to mean it's been verified thatPhilip Guenther
truncation is either desirable, not an issue, or is detected and handled later ok deraadt@
2014-04-18tone down some XXXXX to not appear in grepTed Unangst
2014-04-18Do not ask the user to pass either -DB_ENDIAN or -DL_ENDIAN to the compiler,Miod Vallat
but rather figure out the endianness from <machine/endian.h> automagically; help from guenther@ ok jca@ guenther@ beck@ and the rest of the `Buena SSL rampage club'
2014-04-18Put the final pieces from e_os.h in the required places, and remove it.Theo de Raadt
"dance on it's grave" says beck ok guenther beck
2014-04-17Get rid of MS Visual C compiler and Intel C compiler specific defines.Miod Vallat
2014-04-17Change library to use intrinsic memory allocation functions instead ofBob Beck
OPENSSL_foo wrappers. This changes: OPENSSL_malloc->malloc OPENSSL_free->free OPENSSL_relloc->realloc OPENSSL_freeFunc->free
2014-04-17OPENSSL_DECLARE_EXIT serves no purpose.Theo de Raadt
2014-04-17unistd.h is always in the same place; no need to #include the result ofTheo de Raadt
a maze of conditional #define's
2014-04-16Remove _CRAY references. Note that this pleads for the use of <stdint.h>Miod Vallat
fixed-width types instead of choosing int or long depending upon what we think the architecture support.
2014-04-16Remove DES_read_password and DES_read_2passwords which are `modern' flavoursMiod Vallat
of des_old.h routines, acting as wrappers about the OpenSSL UI API. Nothing should use these functions directly. Riding the recent libcrypto major bump (in a `des' car).

2014-04-1512 years ago, old_des.h was used to provide compatibility with libdes.Ted Unangst
The man page says "Compatibility des_ functions are provided for a short while" and indeed even the original commit message says "The compatibility functions will be removed in some future release, at the latest in version 1.0." So here we are, a short while later. Now I've only been an OpenBSD developer for 11 years, one year less than this header has existed, but in that brief time, I've learned a thing or two about deleting obsolete code. It doesn't delete itself. And worse, people will continue using it until you force them onto a better path.
