2013-01-03sysctl.3: remove some confusing text about NFS_NIOTHREADSJason McIntyre
sysctl.8: remove the vfs.nfs.iothreads example, since a) showing how to set a default value is not particularly helpful and b) EXAMPLES is bloated enough as it is; further, remove the text which points to other pages for further discussion, since those pages no longer provide relevant info diff started by an email from Jan Stary; blambert helped me prepare this diff

2011-09-03make -column lists pretty again;Jason McIntyre
specifically, rewrite them to permit some markup in the column headers, and use "Ta" instead of literal tabs; mandoc does not currently match groff 100%, but a mandoc fix may be some time off, and we've gone enough releases with poorly formatting column lists. in some cases i have rewritten the lists as -tag, where -column made little sense.
2011-07-08Include PIPEX in kernel by default. And add new sysctl variableYASUOKA Masahiko
`net.pipex.enable' to enable PIPEX. By default, pipex is disabled and it will not process packets from wire. Update man pages and update HOWTO_PIPEX_NPPPD.txt for testers. discussed with dlg@, ok deraadt@ mcbride@ claudio@
2011-07-06Add sysctl net.inet.tcp.always_keepalive, when this is set the systemStuart Henderson
behaves as if SO_KEEPALIVE was set on all TCP sockets, forcing keepalives to be sent every net.inet.tcp.keepidle half-seconds. In conjunction with a keepidle value greatly reduced from the default, this can be useful for keeping sessions open if you are stuck on a network with short NAT or firewall timeouts. Feedback from various people, ok henning@ claudio@
2011-06-24machdep.kbdreset enables a shutdown by Ctrl-Alt-Del on amd64 andChristian Weisgerber
i386. Stop abusing it on other archs for controling a shutdown by pressing the soft power button: * Add a MI sysctl hw.allowpowerdown; if set to 1 (the default) it allows a power button shutdown. * Make acpi(4)/acpibtn(4) honor hw.allowpowerdown. * Switch the various power button intercepts on landisk, sgi, sparc64 and zaurus over to hw.allowpowerdown. * Garbage collect the machdep.kbdreset sysctl on all archs other than amd64 and i386. ok miod@
2011-05-23mention ranges; prodding and feedback jmc@Damien Miller
2011-05-23allow ranges for entering net.inet.(tcp|udp).baddynamic lists, e.g.Damien Miller
sysctl net.inet.tcp.baddynamic=1-32768 sysctl net.inet.udp.baddynamic=+40000-65535 ok mk@
2011-03-12Replace the old, broken KERN_PROC ABI and its matching functionsPhilip Guenthe
in libkvm with the stable-ABI versions that are currently named KERN_PROC2, kvm_get{proc,argv,envv}2(). The latter names and symbols will continue to be supported for a few releases. Committing now that they ports people have had a couple releases to update pkgs that usd the old functions
2010-11-02expose the kernels network livelock counterDavid Gwynne
2010-10-11Remove net.inet.tcp.recvspace and net.inet.tcp.sendspace here as well.Claudio Jeker

2010-08-26document kern.consdev;Jason McIntyre
2010-08-19Introduce an MI kern.consdev sysctl that will replace the MDMark Kettenis
machdep.console_device that's only implemented on a few architectures. ok deraadt@, miod@
2010-06-29list kern.rthreads as a knob you can but shouldn't turnTed Unangst
2010-04-21scale angle by 1000000 to permit min.sec accuracyTheo de Raadt
2010-04-21Add the "angle" sensor, measured in degrees; from Luis PintoTheo de Raadt
2010-04-20Get rid of MAXSENSORDEVICES. Gaps in sensordev lists are now handledTheo de Raadt
by returning ENXIO instead of ENOENT, to essentially indicate hotplug sensor that has gone away. Accessing beyond the end of the sensordev list still returns ENOENT, so that you can see there are no further devices. ok kettenis oga
2010-04-20Add "frequency" type for sensors. (and teach userland how to print thatOwain Ainsworth
type). Measured in Hz. ok deraadt@
2010-04-15add SENSOR_HUMIDITY to sensor framework to handle humidity valuesYojiro Uo
ok kettenis@ xsa@ sobrado@ krw@ deraadt@
2010-02-27Remove the paragraph about "sysctl debug" as suggested by kettenis@.Ingo Schwarze
It misled users to think they could use it, and it didn't really provide any useful information. Instead, note that some sysctl variables depend on options(4). OK jmc@
2010-01-14Document hw.ncpufound and HW_NCPUFOUND.Philip Guenthe
Document the interpretation of the third and fourth levels of KERN_FILE2. Document that KERN_FILE and KERN_PROC are deprecated in favor of KERN_FILE2 and KERN_PROC2. ok and tweaks jmc@
2010-01-10Reimplement kvm_getproc2()'s support for reading crash dumps andPhilip Guenthe
/dev/mem to be direct instead of going through kvm_getprocs(), as that function is going to get more an more broken as we move stuff from struct proc to struct process for rthreads. To minimize the code copying, put the common logic of filling in a kinfo_proc2 structure into a macro FILL_KPROC2() in <sys/sysctl.h> for use from both the kernel and user-space. This also hides the KERN_PROC #define behind "#if defined(_KERNEL)||defined(_LIBKVM)", as it's deprecated. Positive feedback from millert and blambert; so committing to unblock further rthreads work.
2009-11-05IPv6 support for divert sockets.Michele Marchetto
tested by phessler@ pyr@ ok claudio@ "go ahead" deraadt@
2009-10-28rcsid[] and sccsid[] and copyright[] are essentially unmaintained (andTheo de Raadt
unmaintainable). these days, people use source. these id's do not provide any benefit, and do hurt the small install media (the 33,000 line diff is essentially mechanical) ok with the idea millert, ok dms
2009-10-04Add (again) support for divert sockets. They allow you to:Michele Marchetto
- queue packets from pf(4) to a userspace application - reinject packets from the application into the kernel stack. The divert socket can be bound to a special "divert port" and will receive every packet diverted to that port by pf(4). The pf syntax is pretty simple, e.g.: pass on em0 inet proto tcp from any to any port 80 divert-packet port 1 A lot of discussion have happened since my last commit that resulted in many changes and improvements. I would *really* like to thank everyone who took part in the discussion especially canacar@ who spotted out which are the limitations of this approach. OpenBSD divert(4) is meant to be compatible with software running on top of FreeBSD's divert sockets even though they are pretty different and will become even more with time. discusses with many, but mainly reyk@ canacar@ deraadt@ dlg@ claudio@ beck@ tested by reyk@ and myself ok reyk@ claudio@ beck@ manpage help and ok by jmc@
