This code will be removed from gif(4) in the future. Switching should be as simple as renaming the config file (hostname.gifX -> hostname.etheripX), changing the interface name in hostname.bridgeX, and updating firewall rules etc. to match - I've tested this with etherip+bridge+isakmpd+ospf tunnels.
