2011-07-05Recommit the reverted sigacts change now that the NFS use-after-freePhilip Guenthe
problem has been tracked down. This fixes the sharing of the signal handling state: shared bits go in sigacts, per-rthread bits goes in struct proc. ok deraadt@
2011-07-04remove all the compat svr4 filesTed Unangst
2011-07-04remove compat_svr4 support. ok deraadtTed Unangst
2011-06-26if_downall() cannot be done MI in sys_reboot() because vfs_shutdown()Theo de Raadt
might need network (ie. nfs). Move the call to the MD boot() routines. This cause for boot hangs diagnosed by kettenis.
2011-06-05Move the bufcachepercent setting code to MI locations -- set it to 42%Theo de Raadt
for now; that is unlikely to hit some of the remaining starvation bugs. Repair the bufpages calculation too; i386 was doing it ahead of time (incorrectly) and then re-calculating it. ok thib
2011-05-30Remove the freelist member from vm_physsegOwain Ainsworth
The new world order of pmemrange makes this data completely redundant (being dealt with by the pmemrange constraints instead). Remove all code that messes with the freelist. While touching every caller of uvm_page_physload() anyway, add the flags argument to all callers (all but one is 0 and that one already used PHYSLOAD_DEVICE) and remove the macro magic to allow callers to continue without it. Should shrink the code a bit, as well. matthew@ pointed out some mistakes i'd made. ``freelist death, I like. Ok.' ariane@ `I agree with the general direction, go ahead and i'll fix any fallout shortly'' miod@ (68k 88k and vax i could not check would build)
2011-04-28- enable fenvMartynas Venckus
- add nearbyint, nearbyintf and nearbyintl implemented using fenv
2011-04-18Revert the sigacts diff: NFS can apparently retain pointers to processesPhilip Guenthe
until they're zombies and then send them signals (for intr mounts). Until that is untangled, the sigacts change is unsafe. sthen@ was the victim for this one
2011-04-15Correct the sharing of the signal handling state: stuff that shouldPhilip Guenthe
be shared (p_sigignore, p_sigcatch, P_NOCLDSTOP, P_NOCLDWAIT) moves to struct sigacts, wihle stuff that should be per rthread (ps_oldmask, SAS_OLDMASK, ps_sigstk) moves to struct proc. Treat the coredumping state bits (ps_sig, ps_code, ps_type, ps_sigval) as per-rthread until our locking around coredumping is better. Oh, and remove the old SunOS-compat ps_usertramp member. "I like the sound of this" tedu@
2011-04-15Convert the kernel Makefiles to autogenerate dependencies during compilationPhilip Guenthe
using the -MD option to cc, with -MP, -MT, and -MF where needed, converting "make depend" to a no-op. This increases parallelism for those using "make -j" and keeps the dependencies up to date with each compilation automatically. sparc and vax users will need to rebuild gcc with support for the -M[PTF] options before config'ing with this diff.
2011-04-07Make sure the ALIGN() macro uses u_long on all platforms for consistency, andMiod Vallat
update the comment block accordingly.
2011-04-03Move PPWAIT flag from struct proc to process, so that rthreads inPhilip Guenthe
a vforked child behave correctly. Have the parent in a vfork() wait on a (different) flag in *its* process instead of the child to prevent a possible use-after-free. When ktracing the child return from a fork, call it rfork if an rthread was created. ok blambert@
2011-03-23Normalize sentinel. Use _MACHINE_*_H_ and _<ARCH>_*_H_ properly and consitently.Paul Irofti
Discussed and okay drahn@. Okay deraadt@.

2010-12-26Kill pmap_phys_address(), and force every driver's mmap() routine to returnMiod Vallat
a physical address [more precisely, something suitable to pass to pmap_enter()'sphysical address argument]. This allows MI drivers to implement mmap() routines without having to know about the pmap_phys_address() implementation and #ifdef obfuscation.
2010-12-06Change the signature of PMAP_PREFER from void PMAP_PREFER(..., vaddr_t *) toMiod Vallat
vaddr_t PMAP_PREFER(..., vaddr_t). This allows better compiler optimization when the function is inlined, and avoids accessing memory on architectures when we can pass function arguments in registers.
2010-12-02After the most recent change, make it possible to make -j again. TheTheo de Raadt
early MD and late MI files must be split up so that vers.o can sneak between. Issue spotted by bluhm, repair discussed with miod
2010-12-02move vers.o to before the other objects, so that it is not linked last.Theo de Raadt
having it linked last is bad (on at least i386 and amd64) because the lapic is mapped over the start of the data segment -- savecore(8) then reads the version string for a fixed buffer space, and reads into the lapic area causing unintended side-effects (at least on Intel X5570 and X5680) found by pedro, discussed with kettenis and mpf and miod
2010-11-27Make sure kcopy() returns EFAULT instead of -1 upon failure on vax, andMiod Vallat
fix outdated comments suggesting kcopy() will return -1.
2010-11-18Declare pmap_proc_iflush() in <uvm/uvm_pmap.h> unless <machine/pmap.h>Miod Vallat
provides an inline version of it.
2010-11-18Do not #include <sys/dkstat.h> if you don't need anything from it.Miod Vallat

2010-06-27If you include <uvm/uvm.h>, you do not need to include any other <uvm/uvm_foo.h>Miod Vallat
2010-06-26Don't #include <sys/user.h> into files that don't need the stuffPhilip Guenthe
it defines. In some cases, this means pulling in uvm.h or pcb.h instead, but most of the inclusions were just noise. Tested on alpha, amd64, armish, hppa, i386, macpcc, sgi, sparc64, and vax, mostly by krw and naddy. ok krw@
2010-06-01use --warn-common for linking (some arch's will show new warnings), andTheo de Raadt
prefer binutils-compatible options in STRIPFLAGS (now that our non-binutils strip(1) can handle them too) ok drahn; miod kettenis (for parts)
2010-05-31Completely rewrite the tags file creation process. use config(8) againstTheo de Raadt
a fat kernel (GERERIC or GENERIC.MP) into a temporary dir, then extract some variables using make -V, and after some more singing and dancing use this full and (more) correct list of files with ctags. Don't read this code. ok guenther
2010-05-28${PARAM} is now included in ${CPPFLAGS}, so stop passing it separatelyPhilip Guenthe
to genassym.sh ok deraadt
2010-05-25The _arch and _mach variables now come from config(8), decreasing even furtherTheo de Raadt
the differences between these files. You will need a newer config(8) binary to be able to build kernels. ok kettenis miod
2010-05-25Hand-list the two-step assym.h -> .[Ss] -> .o dependencies. TheTheo de Raadt
result: kernels built without 'make depend'-provided information (ie. the .depend file) are more likely to have their *.[Ss] file compilations track changes to *.h files. The "*.o: assym.h" dependencies listed are gotten from reading the .depend output --- from the biggest kernel possible (ie. GENERIC.MP). When an architecture changes in a substantial way (new .[sS] files), the list should be updated in the prettiest way possible. This is not encouraging people to skip 'make depend'; other issues are not resolved and may be solved later with a change guenther is working on. You can still screwed really easily, so continue running make depend as config tells you. Idea from a discussion with drahn ok drahn, kettenis likes the idea too

2010-04-27over the years we have moved to a machine+architectures scheme that hasTheo de Raadt
two directories. in reality, because of how we place files, it has four: .../arch/A, .../arch/A/A, .../arch/M, and .../arch/M/M formalize this A/A and M/M scheme directly in the Makefiles, which makes them a lot more similar drahn likes the idea a lot

2009-10-19Correct a target name so that we don't rebuild vers.o (and thenPhilip Guenthe

2009-08-11With the SysV memory allocation changes, allocsys() doesn't do anythingMiod Vallat
anymore. Get rid of it completely.
2009-08-09Introduce option DDB_STRUCT. Kernels compiled with this option (except onMiod Vallat
a few arches where toolchain limitations apply) will embed some symbolic information about the various structs used within the kernel, and have new ddb commands allowing struct display and some useful information gathering. Kernel rodata increase varies accross platforms from ~150KB to ~300KB. This option is not enabled by default.
2009-08-09No need to clean genassym{.,o} during `make clean', genassym.sh does thisMiod Vallat
for us.
