2015-01-20Move ps_strings "after" the random stackgap. This makes its location aMark Kettenis
per-process value, and therefpore turns the VM_PSSTRINGS sysctl into a per-process one as well. This gets rid of a pointer to the bottom of the stack at a fixed location. Also clears the road for unmapping the stackgap. ok deraadt@

2015-01-11switch prototype warnings to implicit-declaration warnings.Ted Unangst
This should catch all the same bad cases, but be a little less aggravating in circumstances where a prototype isn't necessary ok deraadt

2014-12-17Prefer MADV_* over POSIX_MADV_* in kernel for consistency: the latterPhilip Guenther
doesn't have all the values and therefore can't be used everywhere. ok deraadt@ kettenis@
2014-12-15Use MAP_INHERIT_* for the 'inh' argument to the UMV_MAPFLAG() macro,Philip Guenther
eliminating the must-be-kept-in-sync UVM_INH_* macros ok deraadt@ tedu@
2014-12-10retire shutdown hooks; ok deraadt, krwMike Belopuhov
2014-11-25A few reliability fixes:Miod Vallat
- protect pv lists with splvm. - try to return as soon as possible from pmap_rmproc(). - correctly maintain wired pages statistics. - invoke pmap_remove_pcb() at splsched to avoid racing the scheduler.

PROT_NONE, PROT_READ, PROT_WRITE, and PROT_EXEC from mman.h. PROT_MASK is introduced as the one true way of extracting those bits. Remove UVM_ADV_* wrapper, using the standard names. ok doug guenther kettenis

2014-10-31The config logic with "rl needs-flag" gotJonathan Gray

2014-10-18Remove even more unnecessary `needs-flag' attributes from config machinery,Miod Vallat

2014-10-10Significant unification of RAMDISK* config files, making them diffable.Theo de Raadt
This makes it easier to remove components not required to do an install, and subsequently add other desireable components ... In snapshots (in various forks) for about a week. Do some upgrades and installs, please.

2014-10-04Switch the kernel configs over to using -Wframe-larger-than= instead ofBrad Smith

2014-09-13Replace all queue *_END macro calls except CIRCLEQ_END with NULL.Doug Hogan
CIRCLEQ_* is deprecated and not called in the tree. The other queue types have *_END macros which were added for symmetry with CIRCLEQ_END. They are defined as NULL. There's no reason to keep the other *_END macro calls. ok millert@

2014-08-06Correct some dma cleanup error paths.Jonathan Gray
While the index variables were correct the arrays of dma handles they indexed were swapped for rx and tx. As there are a mismatched number of rx and tx descriptors we'd walk off the end of the rx handle array by 30 items. ok deraadt@
2014-07-21boot(9): Reduce annoying style diffsMasao Uebayashi
- Always use either: ((x & RB_XXX) != 0) or ((x & RB_XXX) == 0) in boolean context (mostly if (x), or x ? y : z) - prom_halt() in alpha is confirmed to take int as boolean Converted by coccinelle. No functional change intended.

2014-07-12Tackle the endian.h mess. Make it so that:Philip Guenther
* you can #include <sys/endian.h> instead of <machine/endian.h>, and ditto <endian.h> (fixes code that pulls in <sys/endian.h> first) * those will always export the symbols that POSIX specified for <endian.h>, including the new {be,le}{16,32,64}toh() set. c.f. http://austingroupbugs.net/view.php?id=162 if __BSD_VISIBLE then you also get the symbols that our <machine/endian.h> currently exports (ntohs, NTOHS, dlg's bemtoh*, etc) * when doing POSIX compiles (not __BSD_VISIBLE), then <netinet/in.h> and <arpa/inet.h> will *stop* exporting the extra symbols like BYTE_ORDER and betoh* ok deraadt@

2014-07-11CPU_BUSY_CYCLE(): A new MI statement for busy loop power reductionMasao Uebayashi
The new CPU_BUSY_CYCLE() may be put in a busy loop body so that CPU can reduce power consumption, as Linux's cpu_relax() and FreeBSD's cpu_spinwait(). To start minimally, use PAUSE on i386/amd64 and empty on others. The name is chosen following the existing cpu_idle_*() functions. Naming and API may be polished later. OK kettenis@

2014-07-10boot(9): Remove comments about RB_*, "cold", and savectx()Masao Uebayashi
Again remove slightly different comments to reduce diffs. These will be re-added once boot() become MI and its specification is clearly re-defined. OK miod@
2014-07-10boot(): Remove comments about RB_TIMEBAD to reduce diffsMasao Uebayashi
RB_TIMEBAD is documented well enough that the comment is not needed. sparc64 does slightly different and its comment is left with XXX. OK deraadt@ miod@

2014-06-13Fix broken logic in sgec_rxintr() poorly duplicating some of ether_input()Miod Vallat
checks, causing the rx ring pointer to stall as soon as an irrelevant frame is received when the intergace is in bpf+promiscuous or `all multicast' mode. Problem spotted and tracked down to the use of bpf by sebastia@. Hair pulling by me.
2014-05-31Revert previous diff setting cold to 1 on shutdown because it breaks machineMartin Pieuchot
with softraid(4) disks. softraid(4) is the last real consumer of the doshutdownhooks(9) API and it is not trivial to convert its hook to a DVACT_POWERDOWN handler since the latter does not allow to sleep.
